Shelter
That which covers or defends from injury or annoyance. A house is a shelter from rain and other inclemencies of the weather; the foliage of a tree is a shelter from the rays of the sun.
The state of being covered and protected; protection; security
He that defends or guards from danger.
Refuge
Shelter or protection from danger or distress.
That which shelters or protects from danger, distress or calamity; a strong hold which protects by its strength, or a sanctuary which secures safety by its sacredness; any place inaccessible to an enemy.
An expedient to secure protection or defense.
God is our shelter and refuge
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psa 46:1)
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. (Psa 62:7-8)
I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. (Psa 71:7)
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. (Psa 91:2)
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
